You never imagined that you might be the author of a book. But there’s a new type of book on the internet called the “eBook.” Some day, it’s just possible, that you might indeed be the author of an eBook.
EBooks are generally carefully targeted content to focus on a very specific topic or area of interest. An eBook doesn’t have to be big. The typical eBook will have as few as 10 pages and perhaps only as many as 100 pages. Authoring a book of that size, on a subject that you know well sounds a lot less intimidating, doesn’t it?
If you hope to write an eBook, keep in mind that the most important aspect of an eBook is that it is focused on a very specific topic. eBooks simply do not have the scope of a textbook or comprehensive coverage of PhD thesis. An eBook is an answer book and people buy them to solve specific problems or to get information on specific subjects.
Also, an eBook doesn’t have to all be written only by you. You can be an editor and gather freely available public information and put it together into an eBook and sell it. If you take this approach, do remember to respect the copyright laws! Don’t use any materials that are copyrighted and be aware that some content, like data collections, lists, recipes, and formulas cannot be copyrighted – only the form in which they are produced can be copyrighted.
One of the best things about producing an eBook is that you don’t have to be a printer. EBooks are published using conventional HTML or Adobe Acrobat (the full version, not Acrobat Reader) software tools. Also, you will even find that there are some tools on the market made especially for creating eBooks.
So start writing today. If you consider that, in effect, the internet is the world’s largest book store, you can be sure there are prospective readers and buyers for your eBook out there somewhere!
